“From every day objects to luxurious objects of desire”
Lumi Accessories was founded in New York City in 2000. The New York based Finnish-French designer duo Sanna Kantola and Bruno Beaugrand were celebrating Millennium in Europe and found an old factory in Finland who manufactured felt products. They designed simple white felt hats and bags and added leather handles and details onto them. The designers decided to call the products Lumi after the snow-white material produced in Finland (lumi is the Finnish word for snow). The line soon expanded to multiple collections made in leather and seasonal fabrics. Lumi items were quickly bought by New York downtown boutiques and by a Japanese distributor who brought the brand to Asia in 2001. In 2006, Lumi Accessories introduced a second handbag line, MHANN, for their male customers.
Lumi and Mhann luxury handbags and small accessories have since found their way to selected boutiques and high-end department stores in 27 countries. Lumi and Mhann collections are presented every season at the world’s top trade fairs in Paris, New York and Italy, and are available at leading retailers such as Illum (Denmark), Fenwick (UK), Neiman Marcus (USA), Fred Segal (USA), Via Bus Stop (Japan), Galeries Lafayette (France), Franck et Fils (France) and Le Bon Marche (France). In 2003, Lumi Accessories established a subsidiary office in Paris and the following year it opened a showroom in Antwerp. In 2007 the company moved to Helsinki where a vast space in the Design District area was found, that fit both a store, showroom and office space. This is how the Finnish Lumi Accessories was born.
Custom-made materials, high-quality leathers, defined detailing and graphic elements are all trademarks of Lumi and MHANN. The brands also represent strong sustainable values – with the development and use of ecological materials and manufacturing methods, Lumi Accessories strives towards true eco-friendly designs.
