ProtoFactory

About the inspiration
ProtoFactory was based on the desire to design people products that bring fun, edge and uniqueness to their everyday life. The inspiring idea behind everything is to bring joy to people with a contribution that can be made by designing products. ProtoFactory was founded in spring 2009 in the Ostrobothnia county, Finland.
The primary sources of inspiration can be found in the urban culture, industrial environments and things that happen in our day-to-day life. Our urban living environment is full of inspiring atmospheres and sceneries that can be utilized in the product design. The machinery, equipment and overall settings that can be seen in the factories include elements that can be fascinating in a rough way when used in other purposes. The designs often include interesting contrasts that can be seen for instance in the surprising topics of the patterns as well as in the ways to utilize different materials. The designer of the company is Linda Sipilä.

For whom ProtoFactory designs products for a person who enjoys and even becomes very much attached to his or her “trusted friends” that are distinctive, funny and have some edge.

The Thing The products hold a certain attitude and edge which can be seen in characteristic details, rough but polished surfaces and interesting patterns. These products not only last for time but have also an easygoing look as well as fascinating factory-based features; raw materials, pipe prints, cover fabrics, bubble plastics and other industrial elements bring some visual joy that can be experienced as a nice surprise when seen in our day-to-day products. The innovative and bold design can be noticed in the structures and forms of the products.

Contribution All the products of ProtoFactory are designed in Finland,v which enables ProtoFactory to give its contribution to the ever growing design activity that takes place in Finland. Depending on a product line, the products are manufactured either in Finland or in some other European country with carefully selected and tested collaborators. ProtoFactory wishes to offer people design products that are distinctive, rough and funny. On the other hand, ProtoFactory stands out with the cool and simplified colour scale of the products. ProtoFactory wants to create innovative, different and courageous solutions to the everyday needs.
