Camilla Mikama

Camilla Mikama is a fresh Finnish womenswear collection launched in 2008. Camilla Mikama’s design
philosophy is to create contemporary high quality clothes that are interesting and wearable. They are edgy and individual but not too loud, which makes them a good choice for the everyday life. The clothes can also be dressed up or down, worn and mixed in many diff erent ways. Being a female designer she also pays special attention to great fit, body-flattering cuts and small practical details.

Camilla Mikama studied fashion design in Finland at the Lahti University of Applied Sciences, Institute of
Design and in Spain at the Escola Superior de Disseny, in Barcelona. She graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor
degree in Crafts and Design, specializing in fashion design.

Previously, she has worked as a designer for some of the top fashion corporations in Finland and abroad.
She has also worked as a freelance designer in the fields of fashion and graphic design.

The Camilla Mikama spring/summer 2010 collection Early Bird was inspired by birds and Japanese aesthetics.
The birds appear in the print and as origami bird details. The colour palette consists of cherry blossom pastels and black. The fabrics are soft silks, cottons and linens.

In this collection the designer wanted to reduce the amount of seams and to explore different ways to create
interesting and body-flattering forms. She ended up folding, pleating and wrapping the fabric and adding
belts also to give more possibilities for the wearer to customize the garment. For example, thanks to the
waist-cinching belt, one of the tops can be worn so that the origami bird is either in the front or back. Another
goal was to design dresses that would be easy to wear both to the office and casual events.
